Kolkata, West Bengal – Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed early this morning near Howrah, about 40 km from Kolkata, in Nalpur. The derailment occurred at approximately 5:30 am, involving a parcel van and two passenger coaches, specifically third AC economy and third AC. Fortunately, no casualties or major injuries were reported, according to South Eastern Railway (SER) authorities.
The derailment happened as the train was transitioning from the middle to the outer tracks, explained SER spokesperson Omprakash Charan Sai. Accident relief and medical relief trains from Santragachhi and Kharagpur quickly reached the site to provide support, and buses were arranged to transport stranded passengers to their respective destinations.
Railway authorities have announced a departmental inquiry into the incident, aiming to determine the cause of the derailment. In addition, several express and suburban trains experienced delays due to the accident, and a helpline (032229-3764) has been set up at Kharagpur to assist passengers with inquiries.
The weekly Secunderabad-Shalimar Express connects Howrah in West Bengal to Hyderabad in Telangana, offering a crucial link for passengers traveling between the two regions. Railway officials are working to resume regular services and ensure passenger safety.
