New Delhi: Security forces shot dead thirty-six Maoists today in a forest area along the Narayanpur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh, marking a significant achievement for the forces recently, according to sources.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) initiated the anti-Maoist operation yesterday, with an encounter occurring at 12:30 PM today, which is still ongoing. Various weapons, including assault rifles from the AK series, have been recovered.

Following intelligence reports indicating a substantial Maoist presence, separate teams were deployed yesterday to villages in Govel, Nendur, and Thulthuli under the jurisdiction of Orcha and Barsur police stations to conduct combing operations. The confrontation erupted around noon in the forests near Nendur-Thulthuli.

The security forces are carefully pursuing a few remaining Maoists who have retreated deeper into the woods, sources added.
