Harshit Sharma, a 17-year-old, recently turned to social media to share his extraordinary journey of resilience after surviving a life-threatening surgery at AIIMS Delhi. Diagnosed with kyphoscoliosis, a severe spinal disorder causing a hunched back, Harshit underwent a complex surgical procedure on October 25 that required immense courage and determination.
A Grueling Experience in the ICU
Harshit revealed that the surgery required nine units of blood transfusion and left him in the ICU for two days. Post-surgery complications added to his struggle. “I had 65+ stitches and was in such pain that even multiple painkiller injections couldn’t help. I couldn’t eat for 10 days,” he shared in a heartfelt Reddit post.
Despite the ordeal, Harshit expressed immense gratitude for being alive and thanked those who supported him financially during his medical journey.
The Financial Struggles of Recovery
Harshit shared a copy of his discharge summary from AIIMS to validate his story and appealed for additional financial help. “This is me asking for money one last time, as I couldn’t raise even half the amount needed. My financial condition is still strained due to the expenses after surgery,” he explained.
Support and Encouragement from the Online Community
The teenager’s post quickly gained traction, receiving over 900 upvotes. Many users came forward to offer words of encouragement and financial contributions, with some even suggesting organizations that could help fund his recovery.
- “How messed up this system is. Many would prefer dying than paying these absurd medical bills. Stay strong champ; your disease lost, you won,” commented one user.
- Another user wrote, “Donated a small amount. Best wishes—you are a true fighter!”
Harshit’s story is not just a testament to his strength but also highlights the financial struggles many face when accessing critical medical care in India.
