New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has vehemently condemned a “new practice” where multiple lawyers bring up the same case before the bench to obtain a hearing date.

He emphasized that such tactics will not be tolerated, stating, “Lawyers cannot take the court for a ride.” He further explained, “This is an emerging trend. Different lawyers are mentioning the same case for scheduling, and if a judge hesitates, a date is secured. As Chief Justice, my discretion will not be used in your favor. I cannot allow the court to be manipulated. My personal credibility is on the line, and I must adhere to standard procedures for everyone.”

In recent hearings, the Chief Justice has reprimanded lawyers for addressing matters out of sequence, consistently urging them to follow proper protocol by filing applications for their cases.

Since taking office, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum in the courtroom and ensuring that appropriate processes are adhered to. Lawyers have faced criticism for disrupting proceedings and raising their voices to the bench.
