Raichur : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah delivered a powerful message on Saturday, urging the residents of Karnataka to adopt Kannada as the state’s primary business language. Speaking at a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the renaming of the former Mysore state to Karnataka, Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of establishing Kannada as the dominant language in all business and official matters.

“All the people living here are Kannadigas. Regardless of your native language, the ‘business language’ should be Kannada. Kannada must be the main and first language of the state,” he declared.

He further added, “Learn every language, but Kannada should remain the official language in the state.”

Addressing the historical Gokak agitation, which played a crucial role in securing Kannada’s status as the state’s first language, the Chief Minister highlighted the formation of the ‘Kannada Kavalu Samiti.’ This committee was instrumental in creating a supportive environment for the growth of Kannada in Karnataka and eventually evolved into the Kannada Development Authority.

Siddaramaiah called on the people to respect all languages and encourage learning multiple languages, but firmly stated that Kannada should never be abandoned, as it is the language of the land.

During the event, the Chief Minister also honored senior Kannada activists and leaders who were pivotal in the Gokak agitation, acknowledging their contributions to the promotion and preservation of the Kannada language.

By advocating for Kannada as the business language, Siddaramaiah aims to reinforce cultural identity and ensure that Kannada remains at the forefront of Karnataka’s economic and social development.
