Bengaluru, Karnataka – A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Bhuvaneshwari Nagara, Bengaluru, as a five-year-old child lost his life and his parents fell critically ill after consuming a cake. The tragic event occurred within the jurisdiction of the K.P. Agrahara Police Station.
The young victim, identified as Dheeraj, aged five, was pronounced dead at the scene. His parents, Balraj and Nagalakshmi, were immediately rushed to KIMS Hospital, where they are currently receiving intensive care. Balraj, employed as a food delivery executive, had brought home a cake that was previously canceled by a customer three days prior and had been stored in the refrigerator. On Sunday evening, October 6, the family decided to eat the cake after dinner. Shortly after consumption, all three family members began experiencing severe illness and were swiftly taken to the hospital with assistance from neighbors.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the sudden illness, deliberating whether it resulted from food poisoning or a possible suicide attempt. The definitive cause will be determined following the postmortem examination of the child. Meanwhile, KP Agrahara Police are continuing to gather additional information to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Dr. Anjinappa, Director of KIMS Hospital, confirmed that both parents were brought to the hospital in critical condition, while Dheeraj was declared dead upon arrival. He mentioned that the likelihood of poisoning is high, though it remains unclear whether the toxin originated from the cake or another meal consumed by the family. The postmortem report will provide further clarity on the matter.
As the community mourns the loss of young Dheeraj, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
