Telangana: In a dramatic incident near the Mondigutta forest checkpost in Telangana’s Nirmal district, a lorry transporting endangered animals, including eight crocodiles, overturned on Wednesday. The vehicle was en route from Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park in Patna to Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru when the driver lost control, crashing into cement pillars along NH-44.

The lorry, carrying eight crocodiles, two white elephants, two tigers, and other animals, skidded off the road and overturned. Fortunately, all animals were safely rescued despite the accident.

Nirmal district Superintendent of Police explained the sequence of events:
“On October 16, the lorry, traveling from Patna towards Bengaluru, collided with cement pillars near the Mondigutta forest checkpost around 1:00 p.m. The driver drove rashly and negligently, causing the vehicle to overturn and sustain heavy damage.”

The driver, identified as Abdul Mannan Mandal (51) from Sankpur, Gopal Nagar, West Bengal, has been charged with rash driving under Section 281 BNS at Mamada Police Station.

Although the incident caused alarm, swift action by local authorities and wildlife officials ensured the animals’ safety, preventing any further harm.

The overturned vehicle and its cargo have been recovered, and the animals are expected to continue their journey to Bannerghatta Biological Park once necessary inspections are completed. Authorities have also tightened monitoring along the route to prevent future incidents during wildlife transportation.
