Markonahalli Dam Overflows After Heavy Rains

Tumakuru: The Markonahalli Dam in Kunigal taluk has reached its full capacity following continuous rainfall over the past three days. The dam, which holds 2.4 TMC ft of water, is witnessing an uninterrupted inflow of 1,527 cusecs, leading to the automatic activation of two siphons to manage water levels.

To prevent flooding, excess water is being released into the Shimsha River, and residents living along the riverbanks have been alerted. The district experienced heavy rain throughout the week, with the sun finally appearing on Friday.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safe discharge of water and to prevent any downstream impact.
