New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude after receiving a heartfelt gesture from a tribal woman in Odisha, who insisted on handing over ₹100 to convey her thanks. The touching moment was shared by Baijayant Jay Panda, BJP vice president, during a party membership drive in the Sundargarh district on Friday.
Panda recounted the encounter on X, where he revealed that the tribal woman was adamant about giving the money to express her appreciation for PM Modi’s efforts. Despite his attempts to refuse the gesture, she would not take no for an answer. “This Adivasi lady insisted on giving me ₹100 to ‘convey thanks’ to PM Narendra Modi. She brushed aside my demurrals and simply would not take no for an answer until I finally relented,” he posted along with pictures of their meeting.
PM Modi’s Heartfelt Response
In response to the woman’s gesture, PM Modi shared his thoughts on X, stating, “Very touched by this affection. I bow to our Nari Shakti for always blessing me. Their blessings inspire me to keep working to build a Viksit Bharat.”
The incident highlights the connection between grassroots support and political representation, particularly in Odisha, where the BJP ended the 24-year rule of Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by securing 78 out of 147 seats in the 2024 state assembly elections. In contrast, the BJD managed only 51 seats, and the Congress secured just 14 seats.
The BJP also performed strongly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, winning 20 out of 21 parliamentary seats in the state, while the Congress took only one and the BJD failed to win any.
