New Delhi: Former U.S. President Barack Obama addressed a rally in Nevada, urging support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, while taking sharp jabs at Donald Trump. During his speech, some Trump supporters in the crowd booed him, prompting Obama’s smooth response: “Do not boo, go vote!”

Obama Praises Harris and Walz

At the rally, Obama emphasized Kamala Harris’ readiness for the presidency. “We are ready for President Kamala Harris. She has spent her life fighting for people in need, working through college at McDonald’s to pay her bills, and she embodies the values that built America,” he said. Obama also endorsed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, calling him an exemplary leader. “Tim is a teacher, football coach, and even takes apart vintage trucks. Can Donald Trump do that?” he quipped.

Witty Trump Jabs with Jeeves Reference

Obama entertained the crowd by poking fun at Trump’s privileged lifestyle. “Do you think Trump has ever changed a tire? If he gets a flat, he calls Jeeves and says, ‘Jeeves, change that tire.’” His humorous dig delighted the crowd.

Trump’s Focus on Ego and Wealth

Obama criticized Trump for being self-centered. “This is a 78-year-old billionaire who’s done nothing but whine since he came down that golden escalator nine years ago,” Obama remarked. He claimed Trump’s primary goals are to enrich himself and his elite circle, not the average American.

Obama also alleged that Trump was peddling a “Trump Bible,” joking that the former president’s name might appear next to biblical figures like Matthew and Luke—and that the product was likely made in China, despite Trump’s tough rhetoric on the country.

America’s Struggles and the Path Forward

Acknowledging post-pandemic challenges like inflation, Obama empathized with voters’ frustrations but urged them to reject Trump’s divisive politics. “Trump wants the U.S. divided between ‘real Americans’ who support him and everyone else,” he warned. Obama stressed that Trump’s rhetoric aimed to keep voters angry and resentful, boosting his own political prospects.

The Need to “Turn the Page”

With a sharp reference to Trump’s age, Obama remarked, “If your grandpa acted like this, you’d call the family and say, ‘What do we do?’ Now imagine giving someone like that the most powerful office on Earth.” He emphasized that America is ready for new leadership: “It’s time to turn the page and write a better story.”

Obama’s comments also highlighted the significance of the Democratic shift towards Harris as their candidate, especially after Joe Biden chose not to run due to concerns about his age.

“My Economy,” Not Trump’s

Taking a parting shot, Obama reminded the audience that the economic growth seen early in Trump’s presidency was a result of policies implemented during Obama’s administration. “The first two years of Trump’s term were good—because it was my economy,” he said to cheers from the audience.
