Chennai: In exciting news for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans, MS Dhoni has hinted at his intention to continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, confirmed the franchise is thrilled about Dhoni’s decision, saying, “When he is ready, what else do we want? We are happy.”
Dhoni, speaking at a recent event, expressed his desire to savor the final years of his cricket career. “I just want to enjoy the last few years I can play. Playing as a professional makes it hard to enjoy it purely as a game. I have to stay fit for nine months to be ready for two and a half months of IPL,” he said.
Meanwhile, CSK’s retention plans for the 2025 IPL season reveal a surprising top pick. Contrary to expectations, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who retired from T20 internationals after India’s T20 World Cup win, has been chosen as the franchise’s No. 1 retention. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad follows at No. 2, while young pacer Matheesha Pathirana is locked in as the third retention.
Additionally, two more players—likely from Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, or newcomer Samir Rizvi—are expected to be retained as CSK finalizes its squad for the upcoming season.
Dhoni’s call to CSK owner N Srinivasan will now finalize the retention list, setting the stage for another thrilling IPL campaign in 2025.
