Muslim Woman Denied Food at Mumbai Charity Stall for Refusing to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Mumbai: A video of a Muslim woman being denied a meal for not chanting “Jai Shri Ram” outside Tata Hospital has triggered significant backlash. The incident occurred at a charity stall on Jerbai Wadia Road, where an NGO was providing free meals for patients and their families. The video captures a man at the stall insisting that the woman chant the phrase to receive food. Despite her objections, he maintained his stance, prompting a bystander to question his behavior.

The video has amassed over 300,000 views, with many condemning the actions as discriminatory and inhumane. Online comments ranged from calling the behavior “shameful” to questioning the NGO’s practices, stating such demands undermine compassion. One user remarked, “This doesn’t represent Hinduism,” while another emphasized that food assistance should never be contingent on religious compliance.

An individual, possibly hospital staff, intervened during the altercation, calling the requirement “unfair and wrong.” The incident has ignited discussions on social media about inclusivity, with many urging that aid be given unconditionally, especially in humanitarian contexts.
