BENGALURU: Karnataka Minister G Parameshwara dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent criticism of Congress’s poll promises, calling it a “jealousy factor” driven by political motives. Responding to Modi’s remarks about Congress’s failure to fulfill promises in Karnataka, Parameshwara emphasized that the state has allocated Rs 56,000 crore in the budget to implement its welfare schemes, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering on its pledges.
“We’re committed to implementing what we promised to the people. PM Modi’s statements seem to be rooted in election tactics,” Parameshwara stated, questioning why these criticisms surfaced only during elections.
Several Congress leaders echoed this sentiment. Congress MP Kunwar Danish Ali interpreted Modi’s comments as indirect acknowledgments of BJP’s unfulfilled promises, like providing 2 crore jobs and depositing Rs 15 lakh in citizens’ accounts. Senior Congress leader Udit Raj accused PM Modi of misleading the public with unfulfilled commitments, contrasting them with Congress’s record of delivering on promises.
Highlighting the welfare measures implemented in Telangana, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu emphasized Congress’s dedication to meaningful support, such as free bus rides for women and affordable gas cylinders.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the BJP-led government, describing it as characterized by “lies, deceit, fraud, loot, and publicity.” This exchange followed PM Modi’s assertion that Congress’s promises were “empty” and unachievable, citing their track record in Karnataka and other states as examples.
The political clash continues, with both parties defending their records as they prepare for upcoming elections.
