Bengaluru, India — A tragic incident unfolded in Chikkenahalli, Ramanagara district, as a 21-year-old student named Punith was beaten to death after confronting local youths who were photographing his female friends without consent. Punith and six friends from Bengaluru were visiting a farmhouse for the holidays when the situation turned violent.

The incident took place on October 26, when Punith noticed three local youths—identified as Chandru, Nagesh, and Murali from Honnapur village—taking photos of the female students while they were swimming. When Punith confronted them, a heated argument ensued, leading the accused to retaliate violently. The attackers reportedly used a baton, inflicting severe injuries on Punith’s head.

Punith was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kengeri, Bengaluru, but despite intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries on October 29. Following the assault, doctors declared Punith brain-dead, and his family chose to honor his memory by donating his organs.

The accused have been arrested and placed in judicial custody following a complaint filed by the victim’s friends. The heartbreaking loss has sparked calls for greater vigilance and safety measures for young people visiting rural areas.
