Chikkaballapura, Karnataka – In a horrifying incident, a 34-year-old yoga teacher narrowly escaped death after being assaulted, strangled, and buried alive by a group who mistakenly assumed she had died. Using her advanced breathing techniques, she survived the ordeal and later managed to alert authorities, leading to the arrest of five suspects, police reported on Friday.
The arrested individuals include Bindu, a woman who allegedly suspected the yoga teacher of having an affair with her husband, and Satish Reddy, a private detective in Bengaluru. According to police, Bindu enlisted Reddy to monitor the yoga teacher and eventually devised a plan to eliminate her. Reddy reportedly befriended the victim under the guise of being interested in yoga classes, gaining her trust over a period of three months.
In her statement to the police, the victim claimed that on October 23, Reddy invited her for a city tour, picking her up in a car with three other men. She alleges that they drove to a deserted area near Dibburahalli, where they assaulted, stripped, and strangled her with a cable. Realizing her life was in danger, the yoga teacher pretended to be unconscious, slowing her breathing to mimic death.
Believing she had died, the attackers hurriedly buried her under a thin layer of soil and fled the scene, taking her gold jewelry with them. After regaining her strength, the yoga teacher managed to escape from the shallow grave. With the assistance of nearby villagers, she made her way to the police station to report the crime.
Following her complaint, police registered a case involving kidnapping, attempted murder, and other charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities arrested Bindu, Reddy, and three others on November 6. Investigators have since recovered the stolen vehicle used in the crime and the victim’s jewelry.
Police are further examining the suspects’ financial records, as evidence suggests online transactions between Bindu and her associates. “We are carefully verifying all claims made by the victim and investigating the money trail to establish full accountability,” a senior officer stated.
The victim is currently recovering in a hospital, where she underwent a medical examination as part of the procedure.
