Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has intensified its inquiry into alleged mismanagement of Covid-19 resources during the previous BJP regime, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed investigation into reported irregularities in pandemic-related procurement and treatment processes.
This decision follows an interim report from the Michael D. Cunha Commission, which was previously appointed to examine the handling of funds and resources during the pandemic. During a recent cabinet briefing, Law Minister H.K. Patil highlighted that numerous complaints were lodged regarding suspected inflation of costs in the procurement of PPE kits, medicines, and other essential supplies.
Minister Patil stated, “After careful review of the Commission’s findings, the cabinet has approved the establishment of an SIT to ensure a thorough investigation into these serious allegations.” The SIT will assess the reported discrepancies in Covid-19 relief spending, focusing on the procurement of medical supplies, PPE kits, and other essential resources.
The investigation is anticipated to bring clarity to potential financial misconduct and restore public confidence by holding any responsible parties accountable.
