Guna, Madhya Pradesh: A 20-year-old man, identified as Deepesh Lodha, has gone missing after jumping into the Gopisagar Dam on Sunday evening to shoot a social media reel. The incident occurred near the sluice gate of the dam in Ruthiyai, about 20 kilometers from Guna district headquarters.
According to police reports, Lodha handed over his phone to a friend, Raj, to record the video of his dive into the dam. Despite assuring his friend that he could swim, Lodha began struggling in the water shortly after the jump. His friend called out for help as Lodha started to drown, but efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful.
Phool Singh Banjara, a local farmer, said he was alerted to the situation by his children but arrived too late to assist. “By the time I reached, the young man was already drowning and then disappeared,” he recounted.
The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) has been called in to assist with the search operation. Police and local authorities are coordinating rescue efforts, but as of now, Lodha remains untraced.
This incident has once again raised concerns over the risks associated with performing dangerous stunts for social media content. Authorities are urging the public to avoid such life-threatening activities and prioritize safety over viral fame.
