Bengaluru: Alka Lamba, President of the All India Mahila Congress, voiced sharp criticism on Thursday regarding the escalating crime rates in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at a press conference at the KPCC office on Queens Road, Bengaluru, Lamba accused BJP-ruled states of failing to maintain law and order, resulting in rising instances of violence, particularly against women.
Lamba took aim at Home Minister Amit Shah’s earlier claim that women in Uttar Pradesh could walk safely at midnight wearing jewelry. “Contrary to those assurances, the state is now witnessing gruesome daylight crimes, including murders, rapes, and encounters,” she said.
She also referenced the recent murder of former MLA Baba Siddique in Mumbai, despite him having Y-category security. Lamba alleged that the growing impunity of criminals reflects the failure of BJP governments to uphold justice.
Further highlighting the extent of lawlessness, Lamba accused a Gujarat-based prisoner of running a criminal network from behind bars. “This gang is issuing threats and coordinating murders from prison, and even foreign diplomatic circles are discussing the influence of these criminals,” she added.
Lamba criticized the BJP governments in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh for aligning with criminals instead of enforcing justice. “BJP leaders are not only failing to tackle crime but are also manipulating legal processes to harass and suppress citizens,” she claimed.
Her remarks underscored the Mahila Congress’s demand for stricter law enforcement and greater accountability from BJP-ruled states.
