Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the distribution of three free gas cylinders to beneficiaries, starting from Diwali. This initiative is part of the ‘Super Six’ promises made by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) during the elections.
Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar shared that the scheme will cost the government Rs 2,684 crore annually. Beneficiaries will receive one gas cylinder every four months, with the reimbursement credited to their accounts within 48 hours of payment.
This announcement follows the relaunch of Anna Canteens, another TDP election promise. On Independence Day this year, the first Anna Canteen reopened in Gudivada, offering meals at Rs 5 to support the poor, daily-wage earners, and laborers.
During the launch, Naidu said, “What greater satisfaction can there be than filling the empty stomachs of the poor?” He added that 203 Anna Canteens will soon operate across the state, with an estimated maintenance cost of Rs 53 lakh per day.
Naidu also highlighted the Andhra Pradesh Aadabidda Nidhi scheme, under which every female resident aged 18 to 59 will receive Rs 1,500 per month as financial assistance.
