Bengaluru: With relentless rains pounding the city, vegetable prices have soared just as Deepavali approaches, dealing a blow to residents. Farmers are struggling to meet demand due to crop damage, leading to a sharp reduction in supply.
For the first time in nine months, vegetable inflation has surged to 9.24%, significantly impacting everyday staples like onions, potatoes, and tomatoes. Garlic prices have jumped from ₹320 to ₹440 per kg, while onions now cost up to ₹80 per kg.
Soaring Retail Prices Across Markets
In the retail markets, prices of essential vegetables are fluctuating:
- Onions: ₹58-75/kg (Regular), ₹60-85/kg (Sambar onions)
- Tomato: ₹60-85/kg
- Green Chillies: ₹50-70/kg
- Potato: ₹50-70/kg
- Capsicum: ₹50-65/kg
- Bitter Gourd: ₹45-65/kg
Additional vegetables are also seeing a steep rise:
- String Beans: ₹60-80/kg
- Double Beans: ₹35-50/kg
- Cucumber: ₹45-55/kg
- Brinjal: ₹40-55/kg
- Ginger: ₹75-100/kg
- Ladies Finger (Okra): ₹35-50/kg
- Carrot: ₹50-65/kg
- Elephant Foot Yam: ₹50-70/kg
