Washington: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has quietly contributed $50 million to Future Forward, a nonprofit supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, the New York Times reported Tuesday. Although Gates has not made a public endorsement, the donation highlights his concern over the potential return of Donald Trump to the White House in the upcoming U.S. presidential election on November 5.

In private discussions, Gates has expressed apprehension about how a second Trump presidency could impact global health and family planning programs. The Gates Foundation, known for its philanthropy in these areas, fears that Trump’s policies might severely curtail these efforts.

Despite his concerns, Gates emphasized his ability to collaborate with leaders across political lines. “I support candidates who show a strong commitment to healthcare, poverty reduction, and climate action,” Gates said in a statement. “While I have worked with leaders from both parties, this election carries unique significance for Americans and vulnerable populations worldwide.”

Gates’ interest in Kamala Harris’ leadership was previously noted in a July interview with FRANCE 24, where he welcomed the shift to “younger leadership” capable of addressing emerging challenges like artificial intelligence. At 60, Harris is seen as a contrast to her 78-year-old opponent, Donald Trump, who is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history.

Melinda French Gates, Gates’ ex-wife and fellow philanthropist, has publicly endorsed Harris. Meanwhile, Forbes reports that at least 81 billionaires are backing Harris, though Elon Musk is notably supporting Trump.

Gates’ significant financial support underscores the high stakes of this election and reflects broader anxieties among influential figures about the policies a Trump administration might pursue.
