MUMBAI: Police reported that the body of a 40-year-old banker, Sushant Chakravarti, who leaped into the sea from Mumbai’s Atal Setu bridge, was found on the shoreline in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.
Authorities confirmed his identity through CCTV footage and personal items, such as his ring, car keys, and watch. The JNPT police have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are conducting an investigation.
The Shivdi police were alerted that Chakravarti had jumped from the bridge. Upon investigating, they found his abandoned car at the bridge’s edge, confirming it belonged to him. Chakravarti lived in the Parel area of Mumbai with his wife and daughter and worked as a deputy manager at a government bank in Hutatma Chowk, Fort.
During questioning at the police station, his wife mentioned he had been experiencing work-related stress recently. However, no suicide note or relevant details were discovered on his mobile phone.
On the morning of the incident, Chakravarti left his home saying he was going to work, but instead drove to Atal Setu and jumped into the water. CCTV footage showed the jump occurred at 9:57 am. Rescue teams were quickly deployed to search for him using speedboats.
