These budget allocations come at a crucial political moment. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, which secured 12 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has emerged as a kingmaker after the BJP fell short of a majority. With the JDU’s support crucial to the NDA government, the big-ticket budget gifts are seen as a strategic move to strengthen ties ahead of state elections.
Congress Questions Andhra Pradesh Snub
The Opposition, however, was quick to react. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the selective generosity, questioning why Andhra Pradesh—another key NDA ally—was overlooked.
“Bihar appears to have received a bonanza of announcements. It is natural since elections are due there later this year. But why has Andhra Pradesh been cruelly ignored?” Ramesh asked.
With Bihar elections approaching, the NDA’s political calculations seem clear, but the response from Andhra Pradesh’s leadership remains to be seen.
