New Delhi: In a grim discovery, the body of a missing woman was found buried near the District Magistrate’s bungalow in Kanpur, a VVIP zone, four months after she went missing. Police have identified the accused as Vimal Soni, a gym trainer, who reportedly confessed to the murder.

During interrogation, Soni admitted to burying the woman’s body in an area reserved for government officials’ residences. The accused, a resident of the Raipurwa locality, guided the police to the exact spot where the body was uncovered after digging.

The victim, missing since June 24, was confirmed dead following a police probe. DCP (North Kanpur) Shravan Kumar Singh revealed that the victim was allegedly disturbed by Soni’s recent engagement. On the day of the incident, she visited the gym after a 20-day gap, and the two moved to his car to talk. A heated argument erupted, during which Soni struck her neck, causing her to faint. He later killed her.

Tracing the suspect posed challenges, as he avoided mobile phone use, complicating the investigation. Police teams were dispatched to Pune, Agra, and Punjab to track him down. Authorities are still investigating whether the woman’s jewelry was stolen.

The case, registered at Kotwali police station, is being pursued from multiple investigative angles, with legal proceedings underway to ensure justice.
