Celebrities Urge Deputy CM to Resume Development Funds

Bengaluru, November 5: In light of suspended development funds for Bengaluru’s Jayanagar constituency, several prominent celebrities have requested Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to resume financial support for critical infrastructure projects. Shivakumar had earlier appealed to local influencers, including celebrities and politicians, to consider supporting Jayanagar’s development through private donations.

Actor Tara highlighted the enthusiasm of newly elected Jayanagar MLA Ramamurthy, who has expressed commitment to driving development in the area. “The government should release funds,” Tara urged, echoing concerns over the suspension of local area development funds.

Actor Aniruddh also emphasized the urgency of development in Jayanagar, pointing out issues like potholed roads, lack of wheelchair-accessible ramps, and poor urban planning. “If residents inquire about the delay, they’re told that the government hasn’t released grants. If there are political differences, they should be resolved. Development is a right for everyone,” he said, urging the government to prioritize funding.

Defending the decision to withhold funds, Shivakumar stated that he allocated Rs 10 crore as an emergency measure despite opposition. “I’ve ensured grants across constituencies, but Jayanagar is relatively small and doesn’t have major issues,” he remarked, adding that an investigation into the constituency’s specific needs is underway.

Shivakumar further stated that Rs 40 crore had already been designated for Jayanagar, with Rs 600 crore allocated for state-wide projects. Responding to critics, he assured that he would personally visit Jayanagar to assess the situation and address local concerns. “Criticism is fine. People can express themselves however they want — even throw eggs or stones. I am here to listen,” he said, indicating an open stance toward community feedback.

As Jayanagar residents and public figures rally for development, Shivakumar’s upcoming visit will be crucial in determining whether the funds will be fully reinstated to address the pressing needs of this iconic Bengaluru constituency.
