New Delhi: The Central Government has granted ‘Z’ category security cover to Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, with protection provided by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to sources, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a written order regarding the enhanced security, which was communicated to the CRPF last week following a recent threat assessment report prepared by the Intelligence Bureau.
CRPF personnel have already assumed responsibility for the Governor’s security, while additional procedures related to his protection are expected to be completed this week, sources privy to the development told ANI on condition of anonymity.
Sources further indicated that Gehlot will receive the ‘Z’ category security cover within Karnataka only.
The 76-year-old leader took office as the 13th Governor of Karnataka in July 2021, becoming the first person from Madhya Pradesh to hold the position. Prior to this role, Gehlot served as the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2014 to 2021.
He has also held significant positions within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including serving as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and being a member of both the Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee.
