Chennai: In a tragic case, Chennai police have arrested a couple, Mohammad Nishad and Nasiya, accused of torturing and killing a 15-year-old girl who worked as their housemaid. The minor was found dead in their flat in the Mehta Nagar area of Aminjikarai, allegedly after enduring severe abuse.
According to police, the girl was subjected to horrifying acts of violence, including burns inflicted with a hot iron and cigarette butts. Her body was discovered in the couple’s bathroom after they reportedly fled to a relative’s home. The incident came to light when Nishad’s lawyer informed the authorities about the girl’s death.
The victim’s mother, a widow from Thanjavur district, is now seeking justice for her daughter. Four additional suspects have been detained in connection with the case as police await the postmortem report from Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to confirm the exact cause of death.
This incident raises serious concerns about the safety and exploitation of domestic workers, especially minors, in urban households.
