New Delhi: As winter approaches and pollution levels are expected to rise, the Delhi government has implemented an immediate ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers throughout the city, effective until January 1.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced the decision and called on residents to help the government in its efforts to reduce air pollution. In a tweet, Rai stated, “Due to the growing pollution in winter, a ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers has been enforced from today until January 1.” He emphasized the need for cooperation from all Delhi residents.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has released comprehensive guidelines to ensure the ban is effectively executed. This prohibition includes all types of firecrackers, even those available for online purchase, and aims to tackle the increased pollution caused by stubble burning, reduced wind speeds, and other seasonal factors.

According to the directive, the Delhi Police is responsible for enforcing the ban and must provide daily reports on enforcement actions to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. Authorities have indicated that strict penalties will be imposed on anyone who violates the order.
