New Delhi: A man and his father were arrested in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar after they allegedly attacked police officers who stopped them over a modified bike silencer, officials reported on Monday.
The incident occurred Sunday evening when police intercepted 24-year-old Asif, whose Royal Enfield Bullet was emitting excessive noise. Upon inspection, officials found the bike’s silencer had been illegally modified, violating the Motor Vehicles Act by surpassing permissible noise limits.
Asif reportedly called his father, Riyazuddin, to the scene, and tensions escalated when the father attempted to forcibly take the bike from the officers. As the police intervened, Riyazuddin allegedly restrained an inspector, and Asif punched him near the eye. Other officers were also attacked during the altercation.
“We have filed a case against Asif and his father for obstructing public servants from performing their duties and assaulting police officers on duty,” a police official stated.
The injured officers have been treated at a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. The incident has sparked concerns over growing public hostility towards law enforcement in the city.
