NEW DELHI: A recent investigation into an international drug trafficking operation has revealed that the alleged mastermind behind a Rs 5,600 crore cocaine shipment may have connections to the Congress party, according to the Delhi police. The primary suspect, Tushar Goyal, claims he served as the chairman of the RTI cell for the Delhi Pradesh Congress in 2021, a position he left after some time. Authorities are currently verifying this claim and seeking photographic evidence of Goyal during that period.

Police also noted that Goyal had a now-deleted social media profile under the name Diggi Goyal. During questioning by the Special Cell, he admitted to leading the Congress Delhi RTI Cell. Investigators have also traced connections to Dubai.

The investigation has identified a prominent Dubai businessman as a major cocaine supplier. This follows the seizure of over 560 kg of cocaine in Delhi, described by Pramod Singh Kushwaha, Additional Commissioner of Police Special Cell, as one of the largest cocaine busts in recent history. Four individuals have been arrested in relation to this case.

Kushwaha stated that 15 kg of cocaine was found in the possession of Goyal, along with his associates Himanshu and Aurangzeb, who were apprehended while leaving a godown in Mahipalpur Extension to deliver supplies. The remainder of the cocaine and marijuana was discovered at the godown. Goyal resides in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, while Himanshu and Aurangzeb are his associates. Bharat Jain, a receiver from Kurla West (Mumbai), was also apprehended. “The connections indicate a significant handler in a Middle Eastern country. This is the largest cocaine seizure in recent times,” Kushwaha added.
