Pune: Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated concert in Pune took an unexpected turn as the Maharashtra excise department revoked its permit to serve alcohol at the event. The concert, held at Kakade Farm in the Kothrud area, faced backlash from various quarters, including newly elected BJP MLA Chandrakant Patil.
State excise commissioner C. Rajput confirmed the decision, stating, “The state excise department has cancelled the permission to serve liquor during the programme.”
The move followed concerns raised by MLA Patil, who criticized the event’s alignment with Pune’s cultural values. In a statement, he said, “Such shows are not part of the city’s culture. This will create a major disturbance for residents of the area. The event will also cause traffic jams. Hence, I have urged the city police commissioner to cancel the programme.”
The cancellation has sparked discussions about the balance between entertainment and cultural norms in Pune. Despite the setback, the concert proceeded without alcohol service, leaving fans to enjoy the performance sober.
