New Delhi: Errol Musk, the father of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has dismissed his son’s claims of a difficult and unhappy childhood, asserting that Elon grew up in comfort and privilege. In a recent interview, he claimed that his son even went to school in a Rolls-Royce, challenging the billionaire’s repeated statements about his humble upbringing.
Errol Musk’s Version of Events
Speaking on The Ahmad Mohammad Show, Errol Musk shared details of his early financial success and Elon’s childhood. According to him:
By age 26, he had achieved financial success, owned a home (now occupied by the EU’s ambassador to South Africa), and provided a luxurious lifestyle for his children.
He claimed that Elon Musk traveled to school in a Rolls-Royce, implying that the billionaire’s childhood was far from financial struggle.
Errol also revealed that by 24, he ran his own business, had acquired his first aircraft, and was financially on par with professionals twice his age.
Elon Musk’s Contradictory Claims
Elon Musk has repeatedly denied growing up wealthy, maintaining that:
His family transitioned from a lower-income background to an upper-middle-class setting, but he never experienced extreme wealth.
He never received inheritance or large monetary gifts from his father.
His father’s business struggled financially, and he had to support Errol in later years.
In past interviews, Musk has described his childhood as “not particularly happy”, emphasizing the hardships and challenges he faced.
Family Dispute Over Wealth & Upbringing
This ongoing dispute between Elon and his father highlights contrasting perspectives on their past. While Errol insists his children were well cared for, Elon maintains that he built his empire independently, without inherited wealth.
