Bengaluru, November 5, 2024: The Bengaluru police have filed an FIR against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, accusing him of allegedly threatening a senior police officer involved in a high-profile mining investigation. The FIR was registered at Sanjay Nagar police station following a complaint by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M Chandrashekar, who is leading the probe into the case.
ADGP Chandrashekar alleged that Kumaraswamy and his son, Nikhil, attempted to intimidate him and obstruct the investigation by making unfounded allegations. The investigation is linked to a mining scam involving a 550-acre lease in Ballari district that Kumaraswamy reportedly approved in favor of Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2006 to 2008. The Supreme Court is overseeing the proceedings in this case.
The FIR comes amid heightened scrutiny over alleged irregularities in Karnataka’s mining sector, with Kumaraswamy’s involvement drawing significant public and political attention. The complaint filed by ADGP Chandrashekar underscores the tension between law enforcement and political authorities in Karnataka, with the Supreme Court’s oversight expected to maintain transparency.
This investigation is part of a larger crackdown on illegal mining operations in the region, with authorities aiming to root out corruption and ensure accountability.
