Chitradurga: In a tragic incident, Prema (18), a first-year BSc student at Chitra Don Bosco College, ended her life by jumping from the third floor of her college building on Friday, allegedly due to mental harassment from a youth.
Prema had previously been friends with Tarun, a former classmate from Mahesh PU College. While Prema successfully enrolled at Chitra Don Bosco College, Tarun failed his PUC II exam. Despite this, they stayed in touch via WhatsApp, with Tarun reportedly pressuring her to enter into a relationship.
The day before the tragedy, Prema informed her parents about the persistent harassment. Her father, Sudhakar, assured her that he would handle the issue and encouraged her to attend college. However, on Friday morning at 8:55 AM, she climbed over the parapet of the college’s third-floor corridor and jumped to her death. The tragic act was captured on the college’s CCTV camera.
“She called me after reaching college, and five minutes later, the college authorities informed me that she had fallen from the third floor,” said her grieving father. The family, hailing from Challakere, is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to Prema’s death.
In the aftermath, ABVP activists staged a protest at the college, criticizing the administration for failing to prevent the incident. Police were deployed at the scene to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
