New Delhi, October 16: In a blend of modern sustainability and traditional Indian customs, German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann inaugurated his new electric vehicle (EV) by smashing a coconut and tying a nimbu-mirchi (lemon and chili) charm to it—believed to ward off evil spirits.
The ambassador emphasized that switching to an EV is part of his effort to combat air pollution, especially as Delhi’s air quality deteriorates during winter. “Pollution becomes a serious issue in winter, and I felt it was essential to contribute toward reducing it. That’s why I opted for an electric vehicle, and I’m glad my headquarters eventually approved the switch,” Ackermann said.
Highlighting the broader vision of German-Indian collaboration, he added, “Germany and India are committed to sustainable development through our partnership agreement. This car aligns with that shared mission.”
Ackermann also expressed enthusiasm about the launch of the Federation of European Business in India (FEBI) in Delhi on October 12. He emphasized FEBI’s potential to enhance trade relations and drive the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between India and the European Union.
“FEBI is a significant network with over 100 European companies and serves as the umbrella organization for bilateral chambers of commerce. As Europe continues to play an increasingly prominent role in the Indian business ecosystem, FEBI will be instrumental in advancing many fields, especially FTA discussions,” the ambassador remarked.
