A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by a self-described “recovering founder” has left social media users in disbelief over the steep prices of luxury apartments in Gurugram. Abhinav Kukreja shared images of DLF’s new upscale project, highlighting lavish amenities like a private theatre, games room, ice bath area, and spa.

The most surprising aspect for many was the starting price of ₹ 75 crore for the smallest apartment in this development. Kukreja underscored the shock by commenting, “Can’t believe they cooked this in Gurugram,” while revealing the project’s luxurious offerings. The initial pricing has led to comparisons with properties in renowned global locations, as many users sought context by looking up Burj Khalifa apartment prices.

According to Kukreja, the smallest unit measures a remarkable 9,500 square feet and is projected to sell for around ₹ 80,000 per square foot. He noted, “This means there is a building in Gurgaon where the cheapest home costs ~ ₹ 75 crore ($9 million).”

In reaction to the staggering cost, numerous users took to X to express their astonishment and consider alternatives. One user joked, “You could get a facing view in Italy for the same price with much better amenities.” Another commented, “₹ 75 crore for an apartment in Gurugram or for a similarly priced one in Burj Khalifa, where units start at ₹ 6 crore for a 1 BHK? Tough decision…”

Additional comments mirrored this sentiment, with one person stating, “For $1.2 million, you could buy an apartment in Manhattan near Times Square,” while another reflected, “I could probably purchase a home in Los Angeles for that price. Real estate here has skyrocketed, but people’s incomes haven’t kept up. If this persists, the middle class will never even dream of affording a 2BHK.”

“Our real estate market is out of control. We need change. Pound for pound, it’s cheaper to buy housing abroad than in India. This situation is baffling, especially considering that less than 30 years ago, Indian housing was affordable,” remarked one individual.
