Haveri || Arrival of rare guests at Heggeri lake

Haveri: New guests have arrived at Heggeri in Haveri, which is a haven for foreign nationals. Heggeri has been filled with water from the UTP canal, and a herd of otters has arrived with this water. More than 16 of them are seen in the lake in the morning and evening.

They feed on various aquatic organisms including fish, crabs and frogs which are abundant in the lake. Otters who live in rock pots by the river have made the Tungabhadra river their habitat. Water is drained through UTP canal during monsoon to various lakes. Along with this otters are found in large lakes including Heggeri, Hombaradi, Chikkalingadahalli and Guttala.

Environmentalists are offering darshan of otters to air travelers. These are mammals that appear in books.

Miscreants who killed 2 otters!: Miscreants killed two otters despite being on their own without disturbing humans. Alarmed by this, environmentalists have complained to the forest department, and now warning signs have been put up.
