Mumbai: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized on Sunday that the lack of response following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks will not be repeated, warning that India will act decisively in the event of any future attack.
“We cannot allow a recurrence of what happened in Mumbai. There was a terror attack, and no action followed. That will not happen again,” Jaishankar told reporters in Mumbai. He described Mumbai as a global symbol of counter-terrorism efforts.
Jaishankar recalled that during India’s tenure at the UN Security Council, the counter-terrorism committee meeting was held at the same hotel targeted during the 26/11 attacks, sending a powerful message to the world about India’s resolve.
Highlighting India’s strong stance on terrorism, the minister stressed, “When we talk about zero tolerance, it means there will be a response to any hostile act. Terrorism cannot coexist with diplomacy—we cannot pretend things are fine during the day while terror is being bred at night.”
Jaishankar asserted that India will expose and confront terrorism wherever needed, signaling a firm shift in policy: “This India will not accept such duplicity.”
On the India-China border situation, he mentioned that both nations would soon resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, restoring pre-standoff arrangements. “We expect to return to the old patrolling system in areas like Demchok and Depsang. It may take some time, but the process is underway,” he said.
