Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized Karnataka’s BJP MPs on Sunday for their silence regarding the unfair treatment of the state in tax distribution. He urged citizens to stand up against this “injustice.”
Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah highlighted the disparity in tax devolution, noting that Karnataka received Rs 6,498 crore compared to Uttar Pradesh’s Rs 31,987 crore. “The public must voice their concerns about the injustice faced by Karnataka.
The BJP leaders who support the central government are betraying the state’s people, including Pralhad Joshi and others,” he asserted. “Numerous MPs from Karnataka should be advocating for the state, but they have not.” The CM stated that Karnataka has suffered a loss of Rs 60,000 crore in tax devolution over five years. When asked about the government’s next steps, Siddaramaiah mentioned he would discuss it with his cabinet.
On Saturday, he questioned the allocation of funds to other states, citing the paradox of Uttar Pradesh, known for its poor governance, receiving Rs 31,962 crore while Karnataka’s contributions seem to benefit states lagging due to mismanagement. Regarding the cabinet’s decision to grant clemency to rioters in Hubballi from the minority community, Siddaramaiah noted that several RSS leaders had also been released during the BJP’s tenure.
Last Thursday, the Congress government decided to dismiss a criminal case against a mob that had attacked police officers in Hubballi on April 16, 2022, as part of 43 cases the cabinet chose to withdraw following a petition from Anjuman-e-Islam to Home Minister G Parameshwara, according to official source
