Bengaluru, October 16: The Meteorological Department has forecast that Karnataka will witness continuous rainfall over the next three days due to a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify. The upper-level trough extending into Karnataka’s southern coast is also contributing to the showers.
Dr. N Puviarasan, Head of the Meteorology Department, stated, “Heavy rainfall is expected today, with very heavy downpours predicted tomorrow, especially in coastal and southern interior Karnataka. The low-pressure system may move inland within the next 24 to 48 hours, but rains will persist until then.”
In light of the weather warnings, the Bengaluru Urban District Collector has declared a holiday for Anganwadi, primary, and high schools on Thursday to ensure student safety. Several regions are on high alert as they brace for heavy showers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) further noted in a tweet that the low-pressure system, currently located over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify into a depression within 12 hours. “It is likely to move west-northwestward and approach the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh by the morning of October 17,” the IMD added
