Elon Musk is set to lead a new government department alongside Vivek Ramaswamy.
President-elect Donald Trump revealed that Elon Musk will take charge of the ‘Department of Government Efficiency,’ a role he alluded to during his campaign. Musk will work with Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy in this position.
“Together, these exceptional Americans will help my Administration reduce bureaucracy, eliminate unnecessary regulations, cut wasteful spending, and reform Federal Agencies—vital to the ‘Save America’ initiative,” Trump stated. He added, “I anticipate that Elon and Vivek will enhance the Federal Bureaucracy’s efficiency while simultaneously improving the lives of all Americans.”
Trump emphasized their commitment to eradicating “massive waste and fraud” from the government.
Last week, Trump triumphed in the presidential election, outperforming Democratic contender Kamala Harris by 69 electoral votes. In his victory speech, Trump commended Musk, calling him an “amazing and super genius guy,” and noted that Musk had campaigned alongside him in Pennsylvania for two weeks.
“He’s a rising star: Elon. He’s remarkable. We spent time together tonight, and he really engaged in campaigning across Pennsylvania,” Trump shared with his supporters.
Musk, a fervent Trump supporter, played a significant role in the Republican campaign, donating over $100 million and using his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to vigorously campaign for Trump.
On November 9, Trump further signaled Musk’s involvement in his administration by reportedly inviting him to join a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. A Ukrainian official mentioned that while Zelensky expressed gratitude for Musk’s Starlink technology, the primary discussion took place with Trump, as reported by AFP.
