KOLKATA: In response to recent demands from junior doctors, the West Bengal government has implemented a central referral system across five medical colleges in Kolkata and launched a digital bed vacancy monitor at NRS Medical College and Hospital. This initiative aims to improve patient management and transparency in bed availability.
The central referral system allows district hospitals to reserve beds in Kolkata’s medical colleges before referring patients, streamlining the process and enhancing patient care. Meanwhile, the bed vacancy monitor at NRS Medical College provides real-time information on bed occupancy and availability across departments.
The five medical colleges included are Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, SSKM Hospital, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, NRS Medical College and Hospital, and National Medical College. Full implementation is expected in the coming days, according to a state health department official.
