The Israeli military has released video footage revealing the underground hideout of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, showcasing the comforts he allegedly enjoyed while Gaza endured heavy conflict. Sinwar, who is accused of orchestrating the deadly October 7 attacks on Israel, had taken refuge in a well-furnished bunker beneath Khan Younis.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the bunker featured private showers, multiple bathrooms, and a fully-stocked kitchen containing rations marked with the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) logo. This aligns with Israel’s claims that Hamas diverts humanitarian aid, exacerbating Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.

Inside Sinwar’s Hideout

Footage shared by the IDF shows bottles of cologne, personal hygiene products, and a large safe reportedly filled with millions of Israeli shekels. Lockers near the entrance contained weapons, ammunition, and explosives, underscoring the dual nature of the hideout as both a comfort zone and an operational base.

Sinwar, 61, escaped the bunker with his guards before Israeli forces could capture him. Reports indicate he initially stayed in Khan Younis but was forced to flee south toward Rafah as the IDF advanced.

Sinwar’s Final Moments

While evading Israeli forces, Sinwar met his end during a military strike in Rafah. Initially mistaken for an ordinary Hamas fighter, Sinwar’s identity was confirmed posthumously. The IDF shared footage showing his last moments—injured, covered in dust, and attempting to resist capture by throwing a stick at an approaching Israeli drone.

Adding a bizarre detail to the saga, reports suggest that Sinwar’s wife, Abu Zamar, carried a Rs 28 lakh ($32,000) Hermes Birkin bag during their flight from advancing forces.

Sinwar’s death marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict, as he had been instrumental in coordinating Hamas operations from underground throughout the war.
