Baba Siddique, a former minister of Maharashtra and member of the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP, has been shot dead in his son’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra, as confirmed by news agency ANI.

Reports indicate that he was shot around 9:30 pm on Saturday, sustaining at least one bullet wound to the chest, and he was quickly taken to Lilavati Hospital. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Siddique, who served as an MLA for Bandra West three times, was affiliated with the Congress party for 48 years before switching to the NCP in February. His son, Zeeshan Siddique, is currently the MLA for Bandra East and was expelled from the Congress in August.

The shooting occurred on Dussehra and just months before the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Siddique was elected as an MLA in 1999, 2004, and 2009, and held the position of minister of state for food and civil supplies, labour, and FDA from 2004 to 2008.
