Mallikarjun Kharge Condemns Ganderbal Terror Attack

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday condemned the terrorist attack in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of several construction workers and a doctor. He asserted that such “inhumane and despicable” violence would not deter India from continuing key infrastructure projects in the region.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge expressed solidarity with the victims, saying:

“We strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal. This inhumane and despicable act of targeted violence shall not deter India in building key infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Security Response and Condemnations

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has arrived at the attack site in Gagangir, Ganderbal, where the attack occurred on Sunday evening. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also condemned the attack and vowed that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.

“I strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangeer. We have given full freedom to J&K Police, Army, and security forces,” read a post from the LG’s office on X.

Political Leaders Express Solidarity

Several political leaders have expressed their condolences:

  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described the attack as “horrific,” adding:“These innocent labourers were engaged in a vital infrastructure project. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and the injured.”
  • Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah labeled the attack “dastardly and cowardly.”“These innocent people were working on a key infrastructure project. I send my condolences to their loved ones,” he said on X.
  • Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called the act “a crime against humanity,” saying:“The killing of six civilians in this cowardly terrorist attack is highly condemnable. The whole country stands united against this.”

Attack Details

The attack targeted a construction site in Gagangir, Sonamarg, resulting in the deaths of a doctor and six construction workers, with several others injured. Security forces remain on high alert, working to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent further incidents.

This tragic incident highlights ongoing challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, even as India pushes forward with infrastructure and development projects in the region.
