Massive Sentencing in Karnataka: 101 Life Sentences for Attack on Dalit Community

In a significant ruling, a court in Koppal district has sentenced 101 individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in the arson of Dalit community huts. This verdict was delivered on Thursday after the accused were found guilty of the crime, which took place on August 28, 2014, in Marakumbi village, located in Gangavathi Taluk.

The violent incident erupted over a dispute regarding the exclusion of Dalits from a local barber shop and eateries. This caste-based violence ignited widespread protests across various regions of the state. Of the original 117 accused, 16 have died during the trial process, according to prosecution reports.
