Nagpur: On Wednesday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari advocated for taking and publishing photographs of individuals spitting on roads after consuming pan masala, to be shared in newspapers for public awareness. Speaking at a ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ event hosted by the Nagpur municipal authority, Gadkari reflected on his past habit of tossing chocolate wrappers out of his car window.
During a tribute on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, Gadkari stressed the importance of cleanliness for environmental protection and called for a ban on single-use plastics.
He noted, “People are quite clever. After eating chocolates, they quickly discard the wrappers. Yet, when they travel abroad, they often save the wrapper in their pocket. They behave properly when overseas.” He went on to mention that he has changed his behavior, now making sure to throw chocolate wrappers in the bin at home instead.
Addressing the cleanliness concerns in public areas, Gadkari reiterated that capturing photos of those who spit on the streets after eating pan masala and sharing them in newspapers could be an effective strategy, drawing parallels to Gandhi’s past approaches.
