The debate over alleged animal fat in the ghee used for Tirupati laddoos took a political turn as Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan made a veiled jab at DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin. Kalyan’s comments referenced Stalin’s earlier remarks comparing ‘sanatan dharma’ to a virus, reigniting a controversy that had been simmering since last year.
Kalyan, speaking at Tirupati, called the allegations about adulterated ghee “just the beginning” of a deeper issue tied to YSR Congress misgovernance. However, it was his pointed comment directed at a Tamil Nadu leader—without naming Stalin directly—that caught attention. He criticized Stalin’s previous remark, declaring that ‘sanatan dharma’ cannot be wiped out and warned of consequences for those who attempt to do so.
DMK spokesperson Dr. Syed Hafeezullah quickly responded, asserting that the DMK does not target any specific religion but focuses on social issues like caste discrimination. He accused Kalyan, the Telugu Desam Party, and the BJP of using religion for political gain.
In the aftermath of the laddoo controversy, Kalyan has called for a national committee to protect ‘sanatan dharma’ and concluded an 11-day penance at Tirupati, affirming his commitment to protecting the faith.
