Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his re-election as President of the United States, describing it as a “historic victory.” Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to send his best wishes, expressing confidence in the continued growth of India-US relations under Trump’s leadership. “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory,” Modi posted, highlighting his optimism for taking Indo-US ties to new heights as Trump prepares for his second term.

Modi emphasized his enthusiasm for building on Trump’s past successes, noting that the renewed collaboration would aim to strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. “Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity,” he added.

PM Modi and Trump have long shared a warm relationship, demonstrated in high-profile events like the 2019 “Howdy Modi!” rally in Houston and the 2020 “Namaste Trump” event in India, both attended by large, enthusiastic crowds. These gatherings underscored the strong rapport between the two leaders and the positive momentum in India-US relations.

According to Fox News, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 required for victory. By flipping crucial battleground states like Pennsylvania and Georgia, Trump achieved a historic comeback, making him the second president in U.S. history to serve two non-consecutive terms, a feat last accomplished by Grover Cleveland in the late 19th century.

In his victory speech in Florida, Trump, joined by running mate JD Vance and family, expressed gratitude to his supporters, calling this win the “greatest political movement of all time.” Pledging to deliver a “strong, safe, and prosperous America,” Trump reaffirmed his commitment to his campaign slogan of making “America great again.”

As the election results continued to come in, Republicans were projected to secure a minimum of 50 seats in the U.S. Senate, according to Fox News. Meanwhile, early results indicated that Democratic candidates led in only three of the ten states with gubernatorial races currently underway.
