New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress as he addressed the media ahead of Parliament’s winter session. Accusing the Opposition of undermining democracy, he criticized their repeated attempts to disrupt parliamentary proceedings despite being rejected by voters.
“Some people who have been rejected by the people 80-90 times do not allow discussions to take place in the Parliament. The people of the country count all their actions and when the time comes, they also punish them,” PM Modi stated, referring to recent setbacks faced by the Opposition, including in Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister called for “healthy discussions” in Parliament and urged MPs to uphold democratic values. “Parliament and our MPs are integral to our Constitution. Unfortunately, some people, for their political gains, are constantly trying to control the Parliament by creating hooliganism among a handful of people,” he remarked.
The winter session is expected to be significant, marking the beginning of the 75th year since the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Among the key legislative topics, speculation surrounds the potential introduction of the ‘One Nation One Election’ bill, a move that could fundamentally alter India’s electoral framework.
Other notable bills likely to be discussed include the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, which are expected to garner robust debates from both sides of the aisle.
With the session set to continue till December 20, all eyes are on Parliament to see if it delivers productive discussions or succumbs to the disruptions that have marred proceedings in recent years.
